Before he learned that I would be studying in UP instead of UST, he said this. What does this mean for me? It’s something significant. First, I know that teenagers follow the people they love to other universities all the time, but he didn’t use to fall into that category. Before, he wasn’t someone of definite action; he would be okay with compromises and alternatives. This isn’t something he would have done a year ago.
Second, doesn’t he know that UST is… well, not the best place for Engineering programs? Rumor has it that it’s the summer/debarment capital of Engineering in the Philippines (or something like that). I’m not saying that UST-bred engineers have no future; I’m just pointing out that his decision to become a Thomasian, if I’d chosen UST, would only make things more difficult for him… and yet he would be willing to try. Again, not something he would have done if these things took place a year ago.
Maybe this plan of his wouldn’t be too much of a big deal for any other pair in this situation, but it means a lot to me. It’s a significant shift for him and for us, and maybe this is what has convinced me that things will work out fine.
